Wegbeschreibung

A tour for beginners or those seeking a challenge.

On fine winter days, this trail is like a honey-pot with countless tourers out enjoying the mountain. There can hardly be another summit in the Tyrol that offers so many different ways up and down.

Route description:

The usual starting point is the mountain station at the fork to the "Kalte Kuchl" piste and the Tulfein Alm at 2,035m.
Follow the groomed piste to just beneath the Schartenkogel saddle (2,230m). To the right in a southerly direction on good skiing terrain, the trail runs through a series of troughs, followed by short and longer inclines towards the summit. Beneath the highest point at approx. 2,560m, the trail branches off to the east towards the Glungezer hut.
Choose either this route and climb behind the Glungezer hut to the summit proper (2,677m) or ascend in a straight line for another 80m of elevation to the top of the Sonnenspitze (2,639m). The downhill trail runs more or less beside the uphill trails as far as the piste and the ski tourer can now look forward to one of the Tyrol's longest and finest descents down to Tulfes.
