Avalanche Transceiver Training Camp Lizumerhütte

The Lizumerhütte of the Haller Alpenverein in the Wattental now has its own, new and permanent avalanche transceiver training camp.

Directions

New safety initiative of the Haller Alpenverein

The Lizumerhütte of the Haller Alpenverein in the Wattental now has its own, new and permanent avalanche transceiver training camp - a super service for avalanche and touring courses, for education and training, for alpine athletes, instructors, exercise instructors (m/f), AV sections, mountain rescue, mountain rescue, alpine police, USI, etc. In addition, at the Lizumerhütte at the starting point of many ski tours, the new avalanche transceiver checkpoint of the Alpine Club and Mountain Rescue is installed.

Ski tourers and off-piste skiers, snowshoers, snowboarders (m/f) and interested parties can practice the correct use of the avalanche transceiver (LVS) here under realistic conditions. "It can not be that ski tourers are almost pushed into the criminal corner. But who is away from the slopes on the way, must be fully aware of the responsibility to themselves and others. The offers of the Alpine Club for the prevention of avalanche incidents are information, training, courses," emphasizes Gerald Aichner, OeAV Regional Chairman Tyrol. For this reason, the Alpine Club Hall near the Lizumerhütte now offers a permanent training field for practicing avalanche victim search using avalanche beacons.

Training facility

The avalanche transceiver training camp is a training facility for avalanche transceivers. Various burial scenarios can be recreated in the training field. Here everyone can train the use of the avalanche transceiver on the spot, from simple to complicated multiple burials, everything can be practiced.
In the training area near the Lizumerhütte there are several avalanche transceivers buried in the snow at different depths. From a control center, the avalanche beacons can be activated by radio command.

Avalanche test column

With the avalanche transceiver test pillar, the Alpine Club and Mountain Rescue Tyrol want to increase the danger awareness and personal responsibility of ski tourers. The appeal is aimed specifically at the consistent carrying of functional and modern avalanche transceivers (LVS). This against the background of the fact that still about 1/3 of the tourers do without this standard emergency equipment.

The avalanche transceiver system can be used by everyone and by groups against registration.

The variational Glungezer

Tour for beginners and competitors. On beautiful winter days, the trail resembles an ant trail, populated by countless connoisseurs of this mountain. Hardly any other peak in Tyrol offers so many variants of ascent but also of descent.

Directions

Depending on your physical condition and snow conditions, you can choose almost any starting point for the ascent of the Glungezer. With good snow conditions, not only the longest hut ascent with almost 2,100 Hm from the Karlskirche/A12 near Volders is possible here, but also an overnight stay at the highest refuge of the ÖAV in Tyrol - directly below the summit. The Glungezer offers the shortest ascent if you take the lift up to the Schartenkogel mountain station - from there it is "only" 300 Hm to the summit.

The general starting point is the mountain station Tulfein Alm at about 2035 meters. You follow the groomed slope until just below the saddle Schartenkogel (2,230 meters). To the right in a southerly direction on the best skiing terrain, the track moves through many hollows and small and larger inclines towards the summit. Below the highest point at around 2,560 meters, the trail branches off to the east in the direction of Glungezer Hütten-"Iglus alpin2610". From here it goes up to the Glungezer (2,677 meters). The descent leads more or less next to the ascent track down to the slope and to Tulfes awaits the touring skier one of the longest and most beautiful descents in Tyrol.

The Geier

No trace of loneliness. The tour from the Lizumerhütte to the Geier is one of the most popular in the Wattener Lizum. No wonder, the 2,858 meter high mountain presents itself as a real treat as far as the view is concerned.

Directions

The tour from the Lizumerhütte to the Geier is one of the most popular in the Wattener Lizum. No wonder, the 2,858 meter high mountain presents itself as a real treat in terms of skiing technique and view.

Directions
Situated above the timberline, the starting point of the tour, the Lizumerhütte at 2,019 meters, already offers a wide view out of the valley and towards the south on the mostly pre-tracked route into the valley floor.

Leisurely at the beginning, the terrain rises in a southwesterly direction to around 2,650 meters. From there, a steeper eastern slope follows to the striking summit plateau, which offers a fantastic view, especially in the direction of the Tuxer Hauptkamm.

There are various options for descending from the Geier. The classic leads along the ascent track over fantastic slopes to the Lizumerhütte. Into the valley you have to follow the marked ski run, which leads along the right side of the valley mostly over a narrow hollow way. In spring it can happen that the lowest part of the descent is already free of snow, so it is better to ask the hut host about the conditions. From the Walchen camp, this tour is extended to 1,450 meters in altitude and by about two hours of ascent time.

  • Starting point: Lizumerhütte (hut cab) - Wattenberg
    Ascent: approx. 2.5 hours
    Altitude difference: approx. 850 m
    Scenery: alpine and panoramic
    Condition: good
    Technique: average
Largoz

Because the 2,214 meter high Largoz is on the one hand a popular, because relatively safe ski touring destination and secondly a popular training tour.

Directions

Above the Krepperhütte at about 1,400 m the tour begins with a decision: If you want, you can follow the toboggan run to the right or the downhill run to the left - but the most beautiful choice and the greatest nature experience is certainly formed by the middle path, which winds through the forest. Especially with fresh snow, the ascent in this dream of white becomes a pleasure. The trail crosses the forest road a few times before the open alpine pastures begin just below the Largozalm. From this idyllic alpine village at 1,063 m , which allows a first view of the Inn Valley, it is important to keep to the right on a wide ridge.
In the direction of Södlsten through hollows and over short steep steps the track leads to the summit. For the descent the following applies: up to the Largozalm gentle slopes offer ideal skiing fun. From here on, only good skiers should venture off the forest trail that winds its way down. This tour can be extended at will - from Volders the ascent is extended to around 1,600 meters in altitude.

  • Starting point: parking lots below and above the Krepper hut
  • Ascent: approx. 2 to 2.5 hours
  • Altitude difference: approx. 820 m
  • Scenery: unique view of the Inn valley
  • Condition: average
  • Technique: average
